Project3 "the law student" progress

I have finally finished all of my shootings now it is the editing part that need to be done. I have spent sometime to decide where all my important clips should fit in and used some motion graphics in AfterEffect, majorly with texts to describe a law student's life.

I have used some nice open source audio from Archive.org for my clip.

Project 2 progress-Final

I'm very please with my final project right now(my video it is called "people make the difference"). The main idea behind this video is to show the audience the human interaction with the park, either with or without. You may realize something immediately when you are watching, whenever there is a human interaction, there will be a lot of movement. If not, that is a quite static scene without human activity. I had composed a story about the human interaction through my design process.

And just yesterday (in my studio session) I had discussed the video with Kah, and we had talked about how to sharpen the movie and make my final project really great. And I think I had done it now, it is up to you to look at it and enjoy. The background music of my video also strongly suggest the story and it is a open source audio from archive.org.

Finally please sit back relax and enjoy the my video("People Make The DIfference") .

After Effects and some other cool stuff-project2 progress2

Now I 'm focusing on putting visual effects on my video showing the human interaction with a location, for me is the Kelburn Park. There were heaps of useful sites there teaches you how to make cool effects on Adobe AfterEffect. And I had learnt some of them which I think are quite useful for my project. I have found an open source audio which strongly supports my idea from architve.org. http://www.archive.org/details/MyspaceBackgroundMusic

I had made the human interaction with the park quite significant by using effects on sports people in the park. In one scene for example you will see a goal keeper taking a goal kick. As soon as he kicks the ball the earth shakes just like he "really made the earth shakes"! That just one of many effects I have used in the movie.

Hope you all enjoy it!

Project 2 progress

I have finished my shooting in Kelburn Park yesterday and I'm quite happy with my previous shooting on a nice saturday morning. And I would like to use some visual affects on my movie clips to show the audience how different a location can be with people. Kelburn Park always have a lot of sporting events and people come and relax in it during the weekends. How about the time when people are not in it? So in my video of this particular location I will show the audience the interaction between the people and the park itself. The first shooting I got was a freehand shooting of people using the park for relaxation and sporting events in the weekend. I found it quite hard to use the "filming Taiqi" in my shooting (hard to keep my hands steady in zoom-in shots). So in the second shooting, I had used a tripod to shoot the location and found some very interesting things I can do with tripod and camera(which was awesome)! These things have inspired me to move on to create a video to show the audience of how people interact with the park.

During the uploading of my video file onto AVID I had faced several problems, like not enough power on video camera in the middle of my loading process, file sizes and capturing video. Now I am ready to start editing my clips.

"What" is New Media?" Reading Response

This article tells us about the new media for instance, Internet, website, DVD, computer games and so on. And later how the old media became new.

So how media became new? That was when the new reproduction machine was first invented and made people want to use the media machine, which significantly influenced our lives today. And this article later talks about the principles of New Media. First, all media objects has numeral number representations. Second is about modularity. Third, it is automation. Fourth, it is variability. Fifth, it’s transcoding, there will be different coding and modular organization.

In the conclusion of this article, the author states that the computer media perfectly fits how the human mind operates. It is definitely the new kind of identification in the information age.

Project Two-Concept Idea

Initially I had come up with an idea of using Kelburn Park as my site. The reason behind my selection is that, lots of people use the park for activities and sports. And I could capture the change of movements inside this static site.

There are several different angles I could try out to see the different experience the audience might get. There might be characters on the field, like ordinary sports men, soccer stars, people jogging, playing crickets and people having a picnic.

During the class we have today we discussed how to have a narrative through our story with a conflict. Two characters, a hero or a Verlaine can carry out the conflict. I thought about the important sports matches as my guideline. In my story I might have a sports hero saving the team from defeating. The Verlaine While the team was losing with two goals deficits, the captain of this team took his responsibility, later had two assists and a goal. The game finished with a hero defeating the opposition team.

War on Ideas(project one video)

This is a thirty second video I have made to prevent wars. In the first few seconds of the clip, audience can see clear distortion of images, one symbolise democracy(statue of liberty), the other symbolise autocracy(kremlin). The crashes of the ideas had started the conflicts between contries. And a imaginary of Nuclear War was triggered, many people were the victims of this war.

Then the screen pulls back to reality, which this war has never triggered. The whole idea behind the clip I have made was to show what could happen if there was a nuclear war and what people will suffer from it. Finally, nothing bad had happened, everyone(farmers, workers, people on the streets) back to where they were.

Blog Response

Information on internet websites is from a same source(s). Just like the water coming down hill from a mountain. The quantity of internet users increases as the time pass by, so does the water running down the mounting will increase its volume if its a rainy day. As the amount of volume increases in the main path, there would be some leaking paths formed. Same as the online community we are living at. There are examples of SMS (instant text messages0, flickr, Google, Yahoo, Facebooks and so on. These sources then will be edited again in people's web spaces worldwide to enable access to the others. Just like the music companies have remixed some of the artists music works in a new style or variation. That is what we call this century, the Information Age.

"If a traditional twentieth century model of cultural communication described movement of information in one direction from a source to a receiver, now the reception point is just a temporary station on information’s path. If we compare information or media object with a train, then each receiver can be compared to a train station. Information arrives, gets remixed with other information, and then the new package travels to other destination where the process is repeated. "

Looking back into human history, each culture or time period has remixed with others to improve itself. There are no big differences between musicians working on their variations of compositions and designers working on their remix of websites or the other way around. The difference between the slow new original Architectural solution and the fast internet websites (or blogs) is qualitative and quantitative.

Finally, every possibilities come together to form new kinds of media, just like first tape camera later transform into a digital camera, walk man become an iPod, www becomes part of our society.
